Whenever any of the main characters are listening to radio or television, Ford Kiernan's voice can usually be heard as the voice over. The pub was the scene of a gangland shooting in the late 90s.
The scenes had to be shot on a backlot in Maryhill in front of a replica of The Gimlit after series 4 when the owner of the pub sold it to housing developers, prompting a similar storyline. The pub is now demolished and houses have been built onsite. On 13th July the BBC confirmed that they had commissioned a ninth series of the show for but that it would be the final series of the Scottish comedy.
