The vassal islands had to offer tributes to Yugu, which had the biggest population and troops that threatened to wage war against them. Hong decided that his island and others should cooperate to bring peace to Yugu and called their leaders together to build up their financial and military power.

Hong's vision was idealistic and utopian but was founded on practical values. His emphasis on trade with other nations was the reflection of his modern-minded vision and shows how the Joseon Kingdom foolishly turned a deaf ear to the opportunity of growth through commerce and trade.

My novel was dedicated to the pioneer who made his dream come true that I myself couldn't make. Hong's legacy remains in Okinawa where his genealogy and Joseon farming tools and currency are housed in some museums.
